Domestic Zombies

Today is a yellow mess outside which means red alert for me and staying home with a mask and a bottle of oxygen. Only thing that helps a little is a funny movie. Today: Fido - Good dead are hard to find.

When the Earth passed through a cloud of space dust and the dead arose from their graves to devour the flesh of the living, it first seemed that all hope for humanity was lost. Society's rapid slide into chaos, however, was soon halted when scientists at a company called ZomCom created a special collar that turned the rampaging animated corpses docile.

In a 1950s-era alternate universe where domesticated zombies play a functional role in society by delivering the milk, carrying the mail, and even helping out with household chores, one boy is about to find out just how big of a personal responsibility "pet" ownership truly is. Now, thanks to ZomCom, everything is under control -- or is it? Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Canelle et Vanille

Spring is killing me. Not spring itself, but the improving amount of pollen in Berlins urban air make me look like a crying 3 year old with a snotty nose...the only thing that could cheer me  up today was my daily trip to Cannelle & Vanille . Aran is gifted with a natural talent for seductive food-photography and she is assumingly cooking just as good. Todays recipe: Cherry blossom macarons! YUM!

Enjoy Cannelle et Vanille

Cakeland

Did you ever imagine, cakes could become some kind of scary? (I mean, beside the threat by calories...) Visit MS Hoves website and you will learn about predator cakes with carnassial teeth and frosting that turns into rugged sources of hazard...
Apparently, pretty cakes need the ability of self-defence - because we all know what has happened to the alluring piece of gateau in the fridge....

I looove the work of Sonny Day & Biddy Maroney, aka Webuyyourkids, located in Sydney, Australia. Its hard to describe their style as its on the one hand voodoo-inspired but on the other hand, still looking cute somehow!
So is the running skeletton featured in the first video. Must say, even though being dead, he proves quite a stamina!

Have fun time watching Videoclips (and graphics/screenprints/tshirts...) by Webuyyourkids:

Unicorn Meat - That's what i need!

Hahaha this is impossible! But actually you can buy canned, rainbow-glitter-sparkled "unicorn-Meat"

here for $ 9.99!

Pretty cheap, regarding the fact that there is only one unicorn left on the planet! Maybe its because it looks like poo-poo..

In the mood for Superheroes!

Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

There are many things in ones life that one is supposed to achieve, such as planting a tree, building a house, having a baby etc. If you ask me, one of the most underestimated unsolved problem is: Find the perfect cookie recipe!
Didnt you know that incredibly chewy, chocolaty and rich cookies will make you become immortal through bequeathing it to following generations? It will!

Know that you know about that, you will maybe understand how relieved I feel, being sure that I've found what I've been working on for the past 25 years: My favourite cookies!

TURF ONE: Midgets & carnival sideshows

I found Jean Labourdettes, alias TURF ONEs website by accident and by viewing his work i started laughing. Not because he is so funny, but his painted characters are packed with attitude and personality, they are about to burst.

He is claimed to be "somewhat obsessed with Victorian-looking midgets, sporting dandy facial hair, Russion icons, dead things of all sorts, carnival sideshows and seedy vermin-infested theatre stages"(taken from the Bio on his website).

Maybe I should just shut my mouth and tell you the link;)

Plan 59

While I was surfing through the outerspace, searching for a certain advertising from the 50s, I stumbled over Plan59, a fantastic archive, so called "museum of mid-centrury illustration", offering many galeries and links featuring interior design, illustration, advertising, cars etc. from the 50's. My favourite: The 1950s Pro-wrestler calendar, haha!

Everything's better with Bacon!

I dont mean to offend my vegetarian friends out there- so maybe you should just skip this post;)

While browsing the internet, searching for a baked good that my boyfriend could bring to his office today, I found a hard to resists recipe for Bacon salted Caramel Brownies on Savour-fare.com. Even though some of you might still feel strange about the idea of mixing salty with sweet, you should really try it! Your braveness will be rewarded!
(We already ate half of it, so it wasn't a bad idea to double the recipe hehe)

Edge of love: Strychnin Gallery Opening

We went to the Strychnin Gallery/Berlin yesterday and it turned out to be a great show (again). Edge of love features a lot of diffrent artists from all over the world and features styles from graffity to tattoo.
My personal favourites: Motel Seven and Jeremy Forson, whose work is shown on the picture above and can be found via the link posted at the end.

Apart from the inspiring atmosphere, it was really nice to have a chat with Elizabeth Cook, one of the gallery hosts. She is such a warm person and its so great to see her getting excited about digital art: She's a real fighter for making people understand, DA is not only a "click+print process". Good to know there are still idelists out there!

La Antenna

Have to tell you about La Antenna. A movie which paralyzed me way beyond the entire 95minutes playtime! I love the look and feel, the graphic elements and the "1984"-ish mood! Promising you: La Antena is easily one of the weirdest films you'll see all year.

Synopsis:
Mr TV has stolen the voices of the people, leaving them able to communicate only in subtitles. His biggest star is singing sensation The Voice, a faceless woman with the only voice left in the city.
However, unbeknownst to Mr TV, The Voice has an eyeless son who has secretly inherited his mother's gift. With Mr TV hatching a new plot to steal the people's words as well, the boy teams up with his neighbour Ana and Ana's divorced parents to take the tyrant down.

Nuit Blanche

Browsing through the web, I found a shortfilm by Spyfilms which gave me the heebie-jeebies - in a very positive and emotional way.
Its about "a fleeting moment between two strangers, revealing their brief connection in a hyper real fantasy". Directed by Arev Manoukian and cinematographer by Arev Manoukian.

I dare to affirm, they were immensly inspired by Jonathan Glazer...but still, take 2 minutes time and enjoy some big pictures!

Julie & Julia

I watched this movie last night, not expecting too much from it - but: I was totally wrong! Meryl Streeps heartwarming and unconventional, joyful performance is contagious & brought sunshine on a rainy day! (..and made me want some copper pans and pots for my kitchen sooooo bad!)

Synopsys from imdb.com:
In 1949, Julia Child is in Paris, the wife of a diplomat, wondering how to spend her days. She tries hat making, bridge, and then cooking lessons at Cordon Bleu. There she discovers her passion. In 2002, Julie Powell, about to turn 30 and underemployed with an unpublished novel, decides to cook her way through "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" in a year and to blog about it. We go back and forth between these stories of two women learning to cook and finding success. Sympathetic, loving husbands support them both, and friendships, too, add zest

Chocolate Mint Cupcakes

To make a delicious start, I had a blast spending yesterday afternoon in my kitchen to prepare Chocolate Mint Cupcakes which are highly appreciated by me and my honey (the whole batch has misteriously vanished into thin air by now!)

The Cupcakes are already hard to resist in their "ought to be" form, but as a little special, i added a strawberry creamcheese topping this time!
